Happy birthday Mike! In the 4 plus years that you've been gone, you have always been in our hearts and on our minds. You define what it means to be an American hero with the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our principles and freedoms. We will never forget you!! When we heard that you were going to Iraq, our hearts sank because we knew it would be extremely dangerous and we feared for your safety and well being, but you were not afraid. You truely believed in what you would be fighting for and took on the challenge with courage and pride. Family and friends could not have been more proud of the soldier you had become. I'm sure that you are the proud one now, watching from above, witnessing the grace with which your father and Angie have dealt with your passing. Tirelessly, they have put in the hard work to ensure your honorable legacy. They have been pillars of strength and have shown extreme resolve while coming to grips with the emotional devastation of your death. Life must go on and they have done an awesome job of keeping it together given the weight and magnitude of the situation. They have displayed an unwavering love for you. And they have shared your story with so many people. I will never forget the great times we had together. Whether it was riding dirt bikes at Altamont with your Dad and the Rays when you were just a kid, 4th of July in the swimming pool at our house, the trip to San Francisco, your birthday party before you left for Iraq, and especially our last ride together to Monterey for the Motogp with Kendall, you were the kind of kid any parent would be proud of. You were always respectful, courteous, and fun to be around. Until we meet again, God bless you and may you rest in peace. Always, Mark and Susan Howard

Mike Sr. I don't know if you remember me or not, but you let me tag along with you, Angela, and Mike during family day at the end of boot camp since I didn't have any family there. I can remember how much Mike and I enjoyed eating anywhere but the chow hall. I have many great memories of Mike. Thanks once again for the hospitality, and for carrying on your son's name. God bless you and your family.

I wish I were sending some care packages to Michael, instead of writing this. His Dad, Mike Sr., told me quite a bit about AJ, and it would have been a great honor to meet our young Marine. To paraphrase a quote from LtCol Mike Strobl, who wrote "Taking Chance" - "I didn't know Michael, but I miss him." God Bless him and all of our troops.

I never had the honor of meeting Mike Jr. however he has become a big part of my life. I am blessed to know Mike Sr and Angela and they have done so much to keep us all reminded of the sacrifice that their son made for our country and the sacrifice of all of the others before and after. I can't say thank you enough. I have taken Mike Jr's spirit along with me as I travelled to LA with his cover on my dash. His picture sits on my desk. I have painted in his memory and the memory of Cpl John Benson. I am very lucky to have the opportunity to that for him, however unconventional the medium. I am SURE he appreciates it. ;) Love and respect, Nicolle D. Landre
